Clash, arson reported at juvenile correction home in Madhyapur Thimi

KATHMANDU: A clash between two groups at a juvenile correction home in Sanothimi, Madhyapur Thimi–2, escalated into arson and vandalism on Thursday night.

According to police, tensions between the two groups turned violent, prompting a team led by Thimi Police Circle chief Navaraj Dhungana to reach the facility and attempt to bring the situation under control.

However, both groups involved in the clash allegedly pelted stones at the police team, causing the situation to spiral further. As the unrest intensified, 50 personnel from the Armed Police Force were deployed to contain the violence.

Fire engines from Bhaktapur and Kathmandu were mobilized around midnight to douse the flames. The extent of damage caused by the arson and vandalism is yet to be assessed, Thimi Police Circle said.

The correction home currently houses 169 individuals, including 145 males and 24 females.

While the situation has now been brought under control, a heavy security presence remains in the area, with security personnel continuing to closely monitor the premises.
