HoR polls: EC allotting election symbols to candidates today



KATHMANDU: With 41 days remaining until the election, candidates contesting the House of Representatives will be assigned their election symbols today.

According to the Election Commission (EC), candidates who have filed nomination papers for the House of Representatives (HoR) election may withdraw their candidacies today until 1:00 pm. As per the election schedule, nominations can be withdrawn between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm.

The Commission will publish the final list of candidates from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm today. Election symbols will then be allocated to the candidates between 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm.

Earlier, the period for filing complaints against nomination claims under the first-past-the-post system was set for January 7, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Following the examination of nomination papers and resolution of complaints, the preliminary list of candidates was published the same day between 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm.

A total of 3,486 candidates have registered across 165 constituencies nationwide. Nomination registration concluded on January 6. Of the total candidates, 3,089 are men, 396 are women, and one belongs to the third gender category.

The House of Representatives election will be held on March 5. Of the 275 seats in the House, 165 members will be elected through the direct election system, while 110 will be chosen through the proportional representation system.
