Landslides, floods obstruct roads across several districts

KATHMANDU: Continuous rainfall has disrupted road networks in several parts of the country, with landslides, flooding, and road erosion blocking major routes and restricting vehicular movement on some sections during nighttime.

According to a report issued by the Police Headquarters at 5:00 am Saturday, road disruptions have been reported in Kavrepalanchok, Sindhupalchok, Rasuwa, Rukum West, Lamjung, Ilam, Nuwakot, Rolpa, Palpa, and Makawanpur.

In Kavrepalanchok, vehicular movement along the Khurkot–Nepalthok–Katunje Besi road has been prohibited from 6:00 pm to 4:00 am due to the risk of flooding. Traffic is permitted between 4:00 am and 6:00 pm.

Similarly, vehicle movement along the Kanti Highway in Makawanpur has been restricted from 5:00 pm to 5:00 am because of rainfall.

On the Tokha–Chhahare road section in Nuwakot, public and private vehicles, except those providing essential services, are prohibited from operating between 10:00 pm and 5:00 am. The restriction will remain in place until further notice.

The Mechi Highway has been completely blocked at Rajduwali in Ilam Municipality-9 due to accumulated mud. An alternative route is reportedly available.

The Araniko Highway has been fully blocked at Kodari in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality-2, Sindhupalchok, following a landslide at Iku and a road collapse at Lipping.

The Trishuli–Mailung–Syafrubeshi road section at Khalte in Uttargaya Rural Municipality-5, Rasuwa, has also been completely blocked after the Trishuli River eroded part of the road.

The Pasang Lhamu Highway remains blocked at Gosaikunda Rural Municipality-2, Rasuwa, following a landslide that occurred Thursday afternoon.

In Rukum West, a section of the Jajarkot–Dolpa road along the Bheri Corridor at Rije Guard Khola in Aathbiskot Municipality-6 has been completely blocked by a landslide.

The Besisahar–Manang road is also impassable at Rambazar in Marsyangdi Rural Municipality-4, Lamjung, after a landslide.

Two major roads in Rolpa and Palpa have likewise been blocked. The Ghorahi–Thawang–Rukum Shahid Path is impassable at Jhakali in Madi Rural Municipality-6, Rolpa, following a landslide.

In Palpa, a landslide occurred about 100 meters north of the entrance to the district from the Siddhababa Tunnel Road in Tinau Rural Municipality-3, completely blocking the Siddhartha Highway. The landslide occurred Saturday morning.

Police have urged motorists and travelers to exercise caution, assess road conditions before setting out, and use alternative routes where available, as the affected areas remain vulnerable to further landslides and flooding.
