KATHMANDU: Six ministers from the CPN-UML have resigned from the Bagmati Provincial Government as changes in the central power alliance trigger a political shift in the province.
The UML ministers submitted their collective resignations to Bagmati Chief Minister Indra Bahadur Baniya.
Those who resigned include Agriculture and Livestock Minister Madhusudan Paudel, Minister for Physical Infrastructure Development Dr. Dinesh Chandra Devkota, Minister for Industry, Tourism, Labour and Transport Jayaram Thapa, Minister for Forest and Environment Bharat Bahadur KC, Health Minister Kiran Thapa and Minister for Industry, Commerce, Land and Administration Bindu Shrestha.
The ministers reached the Chief Minister’s Office shortly after returning from Kathmandu and handed over their resignations.
Along with resigning, the UML also withdrew its support to the provincial government, leaving Chief Minister Baniya in a minority position.
The Bagmati Provincial Government was formed through an alliance between the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML, with Baniya becoming chief minister from the Nepali Congress.
