KATHMANDU: Continuous rainfall has triggered floods and landslides across the country, affecting several major highways and road sections, according to Nepal Police.
The BP Highway section connecting Kavrepalanchok and Sindhuli, particularly the Khurkot–Nepalthok–Katunjebesi stretch, has been restricted due to the risk of possible flooding. Authorities have halted all vehicular movement from 6 pm to 4 am until further notice.
Similarly, traffic on Makwanpur’s Kanthe Lokpath has been restricted from 5 pm to 5 am due to rainfall-related risks.
The Mechi Highway at Rajduwali in Ilam Municipality-9 has been completely obstructed after heavy rainfall turned the road section muddy and impassable.
The Araniko Highway has also been blocked after landslides struck Jirokilo in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality-4 and Kodari in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality-2 of Sindhupalchok.
In Baglung, the Kaligandaki Corridor at Belbagar of Jaimini Municipality-8 has been completely blocked due to a landslide.
Other affected road sections include the Ranke–Rabi–Bhedetar road at Kopche in Miklajung Rural Municipality-4 of Panchthar and the Aarughat–Machhikhola road at Liding in Dharche Rural Municipality-7 of Gorkha.
Police also reported that a dry landslide at Pangdur in Bagmati Rural Municipality-3 of Lalitpur has completely obstructed the Kanthe Lokpath since Tuesday morning.
Authorities have urged travellers to remain cautious and check road conditions before travelling as rainfall continues across several parts of the country.
