Four consecutive public holidays likely next week

KATHMANDU: Next week is set to witness four consecutive holidays following the government’s decision to declare a public holiday on the occasion of Bakra Eid (Eid-ul-Adha).

The Ministry of Home Affairs announced on Friday that Thursday, May 28, will be observed as a public holiday for the Islamic festival.

According to the ministry, the provision for the holiday had already been included in a notice published in the Nepal Gazette on March 2.

The ministry said the decision was made based on information received from the Muslim Commission confirming that Bakra Eid falls on May 28 this year.

The ministry has clarified that the public holiday will be observed nationwide.

The following day, May 29, marks both the presentation of the national budget and Republic Day, which is also a public holiday.

Similarly, May 30 falls on Saturday, Nepal’s regular weekly holiday, while May 31 Sunday is also expected to be observed as a public holiday under the government’s fuel-saving measure related to petroleum consumption.
