World Cup League-2: Nepal to face USA in Kirtipur today

KATHMANDU: Nepal will take on the United States of America (USA) today in the final home match of the ICC World Cup League-2 (2023–2027) series. The match will be played at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground, Kirtipur, starting at 9:30 am on Friday.

Nepal aims to end its home series on a positive note with a victory against the top-ranked USA, while the visiting side will be looking to bounce back after a recent defeat. The encounter carries added importance for both teams in the ongoing league campaign.

Despite having played the same 27 matches, Nepal is currently placed fifth in the standings, while USA sits at the top. USA has won 19 matches and accumulated 38 points, whereas Nepal has secured 10 wins and 15 losses, earning 22 points.

Nepal is under pressure to win its remaining fixtures to stay in contention for World Cup qualification and to retain its ODI status. USA, meanwhile, remains firmly in the race for the league title.

In their previous meeting at the same venue, Nepal registered a dominant nine-wicket victory over USA. Chasing 199 runs in 36 overs, Nepal sealed the win with the loss of just one wicket, a result that significantly boosted team morale. USA, on the other hand, will be seeking revenge in today’s match.

In the ongoing triangular series at home, Nepal has played three matches so far, winning two and losing one. After a narrow two-run defeat against Scotland in the opening match, Nepal bounced back with a six-wicket win over the same opponent.
