RSP yet to decide on new Home Minister after Gurung’s resignation

KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party has said it has not yet decided on a replacement for Home Minister Sudan Gurung following his resignation.

Speculation has grown over who will take over the key portfolio, but party secretariat leaders said no candidate has been finalized so far.

“The Home Minister has just resigned. We have not reached a stage where a successor has been prepared or decided,” a party leader said. “The Prime Minister and the party chair will sit together to finalize the decision. The party will appoint a candidate with a clean image.”

Meanwhile, the secretariat of Prime Minister Balen Shah stated that the Home Ministry will remain under the Prime Minister for the time being.

A member of the Prime Minister’s secretariat said it may take around two days to appoint a new Home Minister, though efforts are underway to complete the process soon.

According to party sources, the final decision will be taken by Prime Minister Shah and party chair Rabi Lamichhane.
