KATHMANDU: Nepali Communist Party (NCP) Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has called for unity among all leftist and communist forces, as well as among those supporting the peace process and the democratic republic.
In a message issued on the occasion of the Communist Party of Nepal’s Foundation Day, Prachanda stressed the need for a comprehensive reorganization of the country’s communist movement. He said unity among forces committed to socialism and communism has become a “historical necessity” to eliminate discrimination and build an egalitarian society.
Highlighting the global context, Prachanda said imperialist forces are becoming increasingly aggressive against national sovereignty and the people’s right to self-determination. In such a situation, he emphasized the importance of forming a broader front among forces that support the peace agreement and the democratic republican system.
“The achievements gained through the struggles of the Nepali people must be protected and advanced,” he said, adding that unity among pro-peace and pro-republic forces is essential to safeguard these gains.
The Communist Party of Nepal was established on April 22, 1949, with the objective of ending feudalism and imperialism and establishing a people’s democratic system. Various communist parties in Nepal mark the day in different ways.
Prachanda noted that despite political changes, new forms of exploitation, oppression, and inequality continue to persist, and a truly people-centered system has yet to be fully realized. He argued that the relevance of communist ideology remains as long as such disparities exist.
Referring to global political trends, he said imperialism is increasingly taking on aggressive and even fascist tendencies, making the teachings of Lenin more relevant today.
He also stated that the responsibility of advancing the rights of marginalized communities, workers, and farmers—while protecting past achievements—has grown for Nepal’s communist forces. Calling for ideological clarity and unity, Prachanda urged a renewed effort to reorganize the left movement by synthesizing past principles with evolving ideas.
Concluding his message, he appealed to all concerned to commit to rebuilding and unifying the leftist movement through reflection, ideological coherence, and collective action.
