BIRGUNJ: Goods worth Rs 694.5 billion have been imported through the Birgunj border point during the first nine months of the current fiscal year.
According to the Birgunj Customs Office, this marks an increase of Rs 80.44 billion, or around 13 percent, compared to the same period last fiscal year, when imports totaled Rs 613.62 billion. Information Officer Uday Singh Bista said imports through the border have risen notably this year.
Petroleum products accounted for a major share, with five types of fuel imports reaching Rs 148.16 billion, up from Rs 140.10 billion in the corresponding period last year.
Imports of iron and iron-based products also increased to Rs 62.26 billion, compared to Rs 55.09 billion previously. Similarly, crude soybean oil imports rose to Rs 50.40 billion from Rs 38.15 billion.
Machinery and spare parts worth Rs 49.13 billion were imported during the review period, up from Rs 40.57 billion last year. Electrical machinery, equipment, and spare parts imports also grew to Rs 34.19 billion from Rs 30.14 billion.
The customs office reported that it collected Rs 177.66 billion in revenue during the nine-month period.
