Butwal-Narayangadh road obstructed

NAWALPARASI: The Butwal-Narayangadh road section, closed since Friday, has yet to reopen fully, disrupting transport services.

The Daunne section in Binayi Triveni Rural Municipality-2 (Bardaghat Sustapur) along the East-West Highway has become slippery and muddy, making vehicle movement difficult.

According to Yubaraj Khadka, Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office, Nawalparasi, the mud from winter rains and the continuous flow of debris from the Daunne hills have made the road impassable. Vehicles are struggling to climb the uphill areas near Ghiukhola and Bishwakarma Temple, often getting stuck midway.

“Even though the rain has stopped, the road remains in poor condition, causing difficulties for vehicles,” Khadka said. “Uphill traffic from east to west has mostly halted, while west-to-east traffic is moving only partially.”

Passengers and drivers have been stranded for three days due to the blockage. Long-distance passenger and freight vehicles have experienced significant delays.

The Narayangadh-Butwal Road Project noted that road blockages in this section are recurring, particularly during rains, as expansion work continues in Daunne. The project said repair and improvement efforts are underway.

Meanwhile, the Narayangadh-Butwal Road Planning Office has restricted large freight vehicles from operating between 7:00 PM and 5:00 AM daily until Chaitra 20. Even small and emergency vehicles are facing difficulties navigating the area.
