Petroleum imports from Kakarbhitta exceed Rs 9.77 billion in six months



JHAPA: Petroleum products worth more than Rs 9.77 billion have been imported through the eastern border point of Kakarbhitta in the first six months of the current fiscal year 2025/26.

According to the Mechi Customs Office, imports included petrol, diesel, liquefied petroleum (LP) gas, aviation turbine fuel (ATF), and kerosene, with the total value reaching Rs 9.77 billion.

Information Officer and Customs Officer Ishwar Kumar Humagain said petroleum imports have increased by Rs 515.94 million, or 5.6 percent, compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year 2081/82. Correspondingly, revenue generated from petroleum imports rose by 5.7 percent, amounting to an additional Rs 254.24 million.

Customs data show that revenue of Rs 4.74 billion and Rs 94.36 million was collected from petroleum imports during the six-month period.

In terms of volume, the office recorded imports of 53,152 kiloliters of petrol worth Rs 4.72 billion and Rs 6 million. Diesel imports totaled 33,744 kiloliters, valued at Rs 3.22 billion and Rs 6.5 million.

Similarly, 12,811 metric tons of LP gas worth Rs 1.24 billion and Rs 7 million were imported. The office also reported imports of 4,112 kiloliters of ATF valued at Rs 379.4 million and 964 kiloliters of kerosene worth Rs 95 million during the review period.
