KATHMANDU: Bhatbhateni Super Market’s Tangal outlet, which was damaged by arson during the Gen-Z movement on August 9, 2025, is set to resume operations today following the completion of reconstruction work.
According to Bhatbhateni Chief Operating Officer Panu Paudel, the Tangal store will officially reopen to customers at 10 am on Monday.
The outlet has been reconstructed after sustaining extensive damage in the fire. The company said 10 of the 12 Bhatbhateni outlets damaged by arson during the movement, including the Tangal store, have now resumed operations.
The remaining two outlets, in Damak and Hetauda, are also in the final stages of reconstruction and are expected to reopen soon, the company said.
Bhatbhateni Chairman and Managing Director Min Bahadur Gurung expressed gratitude to customers, employees and well-wishers for their support during the reconstruction process.
“Although there was pain in our hearts and tears in our eyes as we watched our stores burn, we did not forget our responsibility toward the state,” Gurung said. “We reached one conclusion: we will rise again from the ashes.”
Despite the extensive physical damage caused during the movement, Bhat-Bhateni said it continued to employ more than 10,000 workers. The company said it did not lay off employees during the difficult period and did not reduce their Dashain bonuses last year.
“We did not separate employees from their jobs and continued their employment without even cutting last year’s Dashain bonus,” Gurung said in a statement.
The company also thanked employees and support staff who worked around the clock during the reconstruction of the damaged outlets. With the reopening of the Tangal store, customers will once again have access to Bhatbhateni’s regular range of goods and services, the company said.
Bhatbhateni reiterated its commitment to providing modern facilities, quality services and a convenient shopping environment. It also expressed appreciation to customers, supporting organisations, well-wishers and employees who contributed to the company’s recovery and continued working during the challenging period.
