RSP central committee meeting underway, key agendas under discussion

KATHMANDU: The central committee meeting of the ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has begun at the party’s central office in Banasthali, Kathmandu.

The meeting is focusing on preparations for the upcoming local-level elections in 2083 BS and strengthening the party’s internal organization.

A key agenda is the approval of a framework for selecting candidates for the local elections. The party is expected to finalize the criteria, methods and procedures to be followed in selecting candidates.

The meeting is also expected to discuss preparing a document on the ‘Right to Recall’, a provision the party has advocated since its establishment. The RSP plans to develop a legal and political framework for implementing the provision.

Appointments to vacant and additional organizational positions are also on the agenda. These include nominating central committee members and office-bearers, appointing secretariat members, assigning responsibilities to department heads, and forming a central candidate selection committee for the local elections along with its members.

The party has also proposed conducting a nationwide training and orientation program led by central committee members and parliamentarians. The program will focus on explaining the candidate selection process to party cadres at the local level.

The meeting is also expected to decide on publishing a monthly digital magazine titled ‘Swatantra’ to disseminate the party’s official views, activities and other information.
