Six people die of Japanese encephalitis in Jhapa



BHADRAPUR: Six people have died from Japanese encephalitis in Jhapa following an increase in infections during the rainy season.

The latest death was that of a 64-year-old woman from Mechinagar Municipality-8, according to the District Health Office. She died last week after being infected with JE.

Public Health Inspector Bishwanath Shrestha said the number of JE cases in the district has now reached 11. Of the six people who have died, four are women and two are men.

The District Health Office has intensified JE testing in various parts of the district and has continuously mobilized health workers to monitor and respond to the spread of the infection, Shrestha said.
