KATHMANDU: Rain-triggered landslides, flooding and road erosion have affected transport services in multiple districts, forcing authorities to suspend traffic on several key routes and advise travellers to use caution.
According to details released by the Police Headquarters this morning, roads in Kavrepalanchok, Sindhupalchowk, Rasuwa, Rukum West, Lamjung, Ilam, Nuwakot and Makawanpur have been affected.
In Kavrepalanchok, vehicular movement along the Khurkot-Nepalthok-Katunjebesi road has been restricted from 6:00 pm to 4:00 am due to the risk of flooding. Vehicles are permitted to operate between 4:00 am and 6:00 pm.
Similarly, all vehicular movement along the Kanti Lokpath in Makawanpur has been prohibited from 5:00 pm to 5:00 am because of rainfall. On the Tokha-Chhahare road section in Nuwakot, the movement of public and private vehicles, except those providing essential services, has been suspended from 10:00 pm to 5:00 am until further notice.
The Mechi Highway has been completely blocked at Rajduwali in Ilam Municipality-9 after mud accumulated on the road. An alternative route is available at the location.
Similarly, the Araniko Highway has also been completely blocked in Kodari, Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality-2, Sindhupalchowk, following a landslide. The road in Liping of the same rural municipality has also been washed away.
In Rasuwa, the Trishuli-Mailung-Syafrubesi road section at Khalte, Uttargaya Rural Municipality-5, has been completely blocked after erosion caused by the Trishuli River damaged the road. The Pasang Lhamu Highway has also been blocked following a landslide at Syauparking in Gosaikunda Rural Municipality-2 on Thursday afternoon.
Likewise, the Jajarkot-Dolpa road section of the Bheri Corridor at Rizegard Khola in Aathbiskot Municipality-6, Rukum West, has been completely blocked by a landslide.
Additionally, a landslide at Rambazar in Marsyangdi Rural Municipality-4 has completely blocked the Besisahar-Manang road in Lamjung. The Police Headquarters has urged travellers and concerned authorities to exercise caution and use alternative routes where available, warning that the affected areas remain at risk of further landslides and flooding.
