KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is holding its central committee meeting today (Friday), with candidate selection for the upcoming local elections and key organizational appointments among the main items on the agenda.
General Secretary Bipin Kumar Acharya has called the meeting at 11 am at the party’s central office in Ghantighar, Banasthali, following instructions from party Chair Rabi Lamichhane.
A key agenda of the meeting is to approve the candidate selection framework for the upcoming local elections in 2083 BS. The party is expected to finalize the procedures and criteria for selecting candidates through the meeting.
The meeting will also discuss preparations for a document on the ‘Right to Recall’, a provision that would allow voters to seek the removal of elected representatives. The party plans to develop a legal and political framework for implementing the provision.
Appointments to vacant and additional organizational positions are also on the agenda. These include the nomination of central committee members and office-bearers, appointment of secretariat members, assignment of responsibilities to department heads, and the formation of a central candidate selection committee for the local elections, along with the nomination of its members.
The party also plans to conduct a nationwide training and orientation programme led by central committee members and parliamentarians. The programme will focus on explaining the candidate selection process to party cadres at the local level.
The meeting is also expected to decide on publishing a monthly digital magazine titled ‘Swatantra’ to disseminate the party’s official positions, activities and other information.
