Parliamentary Hearing Committee to vet election chief nominees on July 28-29



KATHMANDU: The Parliamentary Hearing Committee has decided to conduct hearings for the nominees recommended for the posts of Chief Election Commissioner and Election Commissioners on July 28 and 29.

A meeting of the committee held at Singha Durbar on Tuesday decided to hold hearings for the two nominees for the post of Election Commissioner on July 28, while the parliamentary hearing for the nominee for Chief Election Commissioner will take place on July 29, according to Committee Chair Bodh Narayan Shrestha.

During the meeting, Shrestha informed members that the committee had received one complaint and one suggestion regarding the proposed appointments.

He said the complaint and suggestion would be shared with committee members for review before the hearings are held on the scheduled dates.

The Constitutional Council, at its meeting on July 3, had recommended Man Bahadur Karki for appointment as Chief Election Commissioner and Dr Rajiv Subba and Guru Prasad Wagley as Election Commissioners.
