KATHMANDU: The government has introduced a new reward scheme to encourage the public to collect genuine bills while purchasing goods and services from businesses registered under Value Added Tax (VAT) and Permanent Account Number (PAN).
The government is now implementing the reward scheme, announced in the budget.
Under the scheme, one person will receive a cash prize of Rs 100,000 every day, while two lucky winners each month will receive a bumper prize of Rs 1 million.
Winners will be selected based on genuine bill numbers generated from online or cash payments made while purchasing goods worth more than Rs 100 or making payments at hotels, restaurants and other service providers.
The government has arranged to announce the winners twice a month, on the 16th and at the end of each month.
A separate working procedure has also been prepared to provide legal provisions for the operation of the program and the winner selection process. The initiative aims to promote tax compliance and encourage consumers to demand authentic bills from registered businesses.
