PM Balendra Shah takes dig at Pradeep Gyawali’s remarks, says brakes apply only after reaching destination

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister and Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) senior leader Balendra Shah responded sharply to remarks made by CPN-UML leader Pradeep Gyawali during the party’s first national general convention in Chitwan on Sunday.

Earlier, Gyawali had compared governance to a vehicle, suggesting that using both accelerator and brake simultaneously could lead to accidents, implying caution in exercising state power.

Responding to the remarks, Shah said that brakes in a vehicle are applied only after reaching the destination.

“Party conventions should focus on internal party matters and strengthening the organisation. Opposition friends said a vehicle needs both accelerator and brake, but brakes are applied only after reaching the destination,” he said.

The comment drew reactions from convention delegates, with audible slogans and brief disruptions at the venue following Shah’s statement.
