Two die in Palpa after consuming wild mushrooms



PALPA: Two people have died in Rambha Rural Municipality–5, Falkun of Palpa after consuming wild mushrooms.

According to the District Police Office, 66-year-old Binimaya Kamu Magar and 35-year-old Balkumari Khamcha died after eating mushrooms collected from a nearby forest and cooked at home.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Bhimlal Bhattarai said the victims were admitted to Mission Hospital in Tansen after developing severe vomiting and diarrhea but died during treatment—Binimaya on Monday and Balkumari on Tuesday.

Another woman, 50-year-old Yammaya Jhargha Magar, is undergoing treatment in critical condition.

Police said the group had collected and eaten mushrooms on Friday, after which symptoms began on Saturday morning.

In a related incident, 12 more people in Tansen, Nisdi, and Mathagadhi have also fallen ill after consuming poisonous wild mushrooms, according to police.
