Westerly winds trigger rainfall and thunderstorms



KATHMANDU: The weather across Nepal is currently being influenced by westerly and local winds, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.

The Department’s Weather Forecasting Division stated that the hilly and mountainous regions of the country are experiencing generally cloudy conditions, while most parts of the Terai remain mainly clear.

This afternoon, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy in the hilly and mountainous areas of Koshi Province, Bagmati Province, and Gandaki Province. Partial cloud cover is also likely in the hilly and mountainous areas of Madhesh Province, as well as parts of Lumbini Province and Karnali Province, while the remaining Terai regions are expected to see mostly fair weather.

According to the Division, moderate to heavy rainfall and snowfall are likely at a few locations in the hilly and mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces. Similar conditions may also occur in some parts of Madhesh, Lumbini, and Karnali provinces, along with isolated rainfall in parts of the Terai regions of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces.

The Division has also warned of hot weather conditions in the hilly and Terai regions of Sudurpaschim and Lumbini provinces.

Tonight, weather conditions are expected to remain generally cloudy in the hilly and mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces. Partial cloud cover is likely in the Terai and hilly regions of Madhesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, while the remaining Terai areas are expected to remain mostly clear.

The Division further stated that moderate to heavy rain or snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is possible in a few places of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, and at one or two locations in Madhesh Province.
