NHRC proactive for abolition of caste-based discrimination: Chair Magar

KATHMANDU: Chair of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Top Bahadur Magar has said that the Commission was firmly working for eliminating the racial discrimination in Nepal.

At a programme organized today on the 61st International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, Chairman Magar emphasized the effective implementation of laws, not merely the drafting for ending racial discrimination.

The event was jointly organized by National Dalit Commission and different organizations working for the Dalit rights.

On the occasion, Magar said that a common effort of all state organs, civil society, media and general public was needed for the elimination of racial discrimination.

During the event, Chair of National Dalit Commission Dev Raj Bishwakarma called for addressing the social, cultural and economic exclusion facing the Dalit community even today in the Nepali society.

He shared that racial discrimination has pushed the members of Dalit community into a very tough situation and urged all Dalits to unite for their existence, respect and self-pride.

Newly-elected House of Representatives (HoR) Members Khagendra Sunar and Aren Rai, National Assembly Member Dharmendra Paswan, Chairperson of National Women Commission Kamala Kumari Parajuli and Chief of Nepal Police Dan Bahadur Karki and others expressed their views for collaboration among the state and non-state actors for ending caste-based discrimination in the country.
