Complaints filed against these five candidates at Election Commission

KATHMANDU: As nominations for the upcoming House of Representatives election closed on Monday, complaints have started pouring in against several candidates, including top political leaders.

The Election Commission (EC) confirmed that multiple complaints seeking disqualification have been filed at district election offices and the EC.

Among the complaints are those against Nepali Communist Party co-coordinator and former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, and Rastra Unmukti Party Nepal leader Resham Chaudhary.

Nepal is contesting from his home constituency, Rautahat-1. The complaint highlights that a corruption case against him related to the sale of land of Patanjali Yogpeeth in Kavre is still pending in the Special Court. The complainants argue that he is therefore not eligible to run.

Chaudhary, contesting from Kailali-1, is the main convict in the Tikapur incident in which a minor and seven police personnel were killed. Although he was released following a presidential pardon, the complainants state that his conviction has not been annulled.

Other complaints include Lalbikram Thapa of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) from Sunsari-2, Rajiv Khatri of RSP from Bhaktapur-2, and Januka Pathak (Shova) of Nepal Janasewa Party, also from Bhaktapur-2.

The EC had set a window from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm on Wednesday for filing complaints. During this period, two complaints were submitted from Bhaktapur and one each from Rautahat, Sunsari, and Kailali. The Commission plans to review the complaints on Thursday and take necessary action.
