Prithvi Highway remains blocked for three days

KATHMANDU: The Prithvi Highway remains blocked along the Kathmandu–Muglin–Narayangadh road section, with efforts underway to clear mud and debris deposited by the Bhotekoshi flood.

The highway has been obstructed since Wednesday evening after the devastating flood in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa caused large quantities of mud to accumulate at several locations in Dhading’s Gajuri and Galchhi rural municipalities.

According to Traffic Police Superintendent Dilli Narayan Pandey, mud remains to be cleared at three locations—two in Gajuri Rural Municipality and one in Galchhi Rural Municipality.

Pandey said significant amounts of mud have accumulated at Galaudi and Bahuni Bhir in Gajuri Rural Municipality-5. Similarly, mud remains to be removed from Mahesh Dobhan in Galchhi Rural Municipality.

He said heavy equipment is being used to clear the mud from the affected sections. “There are settlements along the areas where the mud has accumulated on the road. The mud has to be removed and transported elsewhere for disposal, which has slowed the clearance work,” he told Online News.

According to Pandey, equipment required to clear the mud at Bahuni Bhir in Gajuri Rural Municipality-5 has not yet arrived. He said clearance work at Bahuni Bhir can begin after the mud at Galaudi and Mahesh Dobhan is removed.

Pandey said efforts are being intensified to reopen the highway as soon as possible and that clearance work will continue throughout the day.
