Nepal, Saudi Arabia explore ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation

KATHMANDU: Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Nepal, Fahd Mohammad A. Mnikhr, held a courtesy meeting with Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Singha Durbar on Thursday.

The meeting focused on strengthening Nepal-Saudi Arabia relations, promoting high-level exchanges, protecting the rights and welfare of Nepali migrant workers, and advancing areas of mutual interest.

The two sides also discussed the upcoming 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Saudi Arabia, which were established on March 15, 1977. They emphasized the need for continued high-level visits and regular dialogue to deepen bilateral cooperation.

Foreign Minister Khanal said high-level exchanges would provide fresh momentum to bilateral ties and help expand cooperation across multiple sectors. Khanal also thanked the Saudi government for taking proactive measures to protect its citizens and foreign workers, including Nepali nationals, during recent regional conflicts.

The minister, however, expressed concern over reports that some Nepali workers in Saudi Arabia had not been receiving fair and timely wages. He urged the Saudi authorities to take appropriate steps to address the issue and ensure the welfare of Nepali workers. The discussions also covered opportunities to broaden cooperation in political consultations, investment, tourism, air connectivity, labor mobility, and overall worker welfare.
