KATHMANDU: As the dispute within the Nepali Congress (NC) intensifies, Ramesh Lekhak, a leader of the opposition party, has said that only NC President Gagan Thapa knows whether the party will split or remain united.
Asked whether the Nepali Congress would split or unite, Lekhak said, “Only Gagan Thapa knows whether the party will split or unite. They will decide whether to split or unite.”
Lekhak also claimed that the failure of senior party leaders to visit former president Sher Bahadur Deuba and inquire about his health and current affairs, even a week after his return to Nepal, indicates the political direction being taken by the Gagan Thapa faction.
“A week has passed since former NC President Deuba returned to Nepal. So far, they have not gone to inquire about his health and current affairs. We can draw our own conclusions about which direction they are heading,” Lekhak said.
He accused the Gagan Thapa faction of adopting an inflexible approach despite its repeated calls for unity within the Nepali Congress. Lekhak said the dispute within the party has reached the court, with a review being sought, and that the matter will be resolved following the court’s decision. According to him, the party’s current situation will become clearer once the court delivers its verdict.
Recently, differences among Nepali Congress leaders have intensified over party leadership, management, and other internal issues. Leaders have also been expressing differing views publicly over whether the party is heading toward a split or whether the ongoing disputes can be resolved through internal consensus.
