Nepali Congress to organize ‘Green Run’ to promote climate awareness

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress will organize a series of events on July 23 and 24 to mark the 44th memorial anniversary of people’s leader BP Koirala, including a “Green Run” aimed at raising public awareness about climate change.

At a press conference on Monday, party Vice President and head of the Central Policy, Research and Training Academy Bishwo Prakash Sharma said the five-kilometre run will be held in the Kathmandu Valley on Shrawan 6 under the slogan, “Let’s unite to raise climate awareness.”

Following the run, a panel discussion titled ‘Climate Change Challenges: How Can They Be Addressed?’ will be held at the Jawalakhel Chowk Falcha with the participation of experts.

Sharma said renowned artists will also create paintings depicting the challenges and opportunities associated with climate change during the discussion.

On July 23, the party will launch a new campaign and organize a symposium at the National Assembly Hall under the theme ‘New Circumstances: New Commitment, New Campaign.’

The Nepali Congress also announced that it will contribute a fixed amount from its own fund for each participant in the Green Run to establish a humanitarian assistance fund.

According to Sharma, the fund will be used to support elderly people and children from recently displaced landless families.

Responding to questions from journalists, Sharma said the success of the party’s upcoming 15th General Convention would depend on ensuring the participation of all factions. He also said discussions were underway regarding cooperation in provincial governments, adding that no parliament should be left without an opposition.
