KATHMANDU: Members of the National Assembly have expressed dissatisfaction over delays in the construction of the Kathmandu-Tarai Fast Track, saying the national pride project is unlikely to be completed even within the next four years.
The concerns were raised during a meeting of the National Assembly’s Public Policy and Delegated Legislation Committee at Singha Durbar on Monday while reviewing field inspections carried out in districts of Madhesh and Bagmati provinces.
National Assembly member Ranjit Karn said that despite years of work and the project’s status as a national pride initiative, there is still no clear timeline for its completion.
He said that although the government has claimed the project will be completed within four years, field observations and discussions with technical experts indicate that the target is unlikely to be met.
Similarly, National Assembly member Yubaraj Sharma said delays had been caused by the government’s failure to resolve construction-related problems on time.
He urged the government to take the delays in implementing national pride projects seriously and ensure adequate budget management to speed up construction.
The committee had recently conducted on-site inspections of the Kathmandu-Tarai-Madhesh Fast Track, the Nagdhunga Tunnel Project, and the President Chure-Tarai Madhesh Conservation Programme.
Committee Chair Pooja Chaudhary said the inspection report would be discussed in detail at the committee’s next meeting.
