KATHMANDU: The first national general convention of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is set to begin on Sunday in Bharatpur, Chitwan, with the party’s Central Election Commission publishing the election schedule and procedures for candidate registration.
According to the schedule released by the commission, the preliminary list of convention representatives will be published through the party’s website at 8:30 pm on June 20.
Representatives have been given until 8:30 pm on June 21 to file claims or objections at the Election Commission’s contact secretariat located at the Chitwan Industrial Exhibition Centre. The final list of representatives will be published by 11:00 pm the same day.
Candidate nomination procedures will begin on June 22, with nomination forms available from 1:00 pm and registration of candidacies scheduled between 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm.
The preliminary list of candidates will be published at 6:00 pm the same day, followed by a one-hour period for filing claims or objections. Verification of candidacies will then take place, while candidates will be allowed to withdraw their nominations by the designated deadline before the final candidate list is published at 11:00 pm.
Voting for the first phase, covering the party chairperson and central committee positions, will take place on June 23 from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm. Vote counting will begin two hours after polling ends, and results will be announced thereafter. The commission said the schedule for the second phase of elections will be announced later.
According to a notice issued by Election Commission chief Bhuwan KC, nomination fees and supporter requirements have also been determined for different positions.
Candidates contesting for party chairperson must pay a nomination fee of Rs 51,000 and secure one proposer and 51 supporters.
Similarly, candidates for party office-bearer positions will need to pay Rs 41,000 and obtain one proposer and 21 supporters.
Those seeking election as central committee members must pay Rs 21,000 and secure support from one proposer and 21 supporters.
The party has stated that proposers and supporters must be registered party members listed as convention representatives.
To register candidacy, interested representatives must submit a completed nomination form along with proof of payment of the nomination fee, a self-declaration confirming no disciplinary action has been taken against them, a copy of their party membership certificate, and two passport-sized photographs.
