SINDHUPALCHOK: The ‘Helambu Himalayan Great Trail’ being constructed in the Helambu region of Sindhupalchok is emerging as a unique blend of nature, culture, and spiritual tourism.
The trail, rich in Himalayan landscapes, green forests, and Buddhist heritage, is expected to attract both domestic and international tourists once completed.
Locally known as a “Dharma Chakra Wall” under Hyolmo tradition, the trail features stone chortens built at various points, serene surroundings, fresh mountain air, and sweeping views of distant Himalayan ranges, offering a distinctive experience for trekkers.
From the route, visitors can observe numerous peaks including Semesidang, Dorjelakpa, Gang Chombo, Yuba Peak, and Gaurishankar, among others.
Helambu Rural Municipality is constructing the 60-kilometre-long Great Trail inspired by the concept of China’s Great Wall, aiming to encircle the Hyolmo homeland. According to Rural Municipality Chair Nima Gyalzen Sherpa, around seven kilometres of the trail has already been completed.
“Out of the 60 kilometres, seven kilometres have been completed. Anyone who visits here is amazed by the natural beauty,” Sherpa said, calling it one of the municipality’s flagship projects.
The trail begins from Buddha Park and passes through Sermathang and Jyomathang, connecting to the sacred pilgrimage site of Amayangri Mountain on the border of Helambu and Panchpokhari Thangpal Rural Municipality.

It will also extend through routes such as Dupu–Bhemathang, Pasang Siri, Gufupokhari, Jalansa, Dawalang Cave, and towards the Semesidang region.
Once completed, the trail will allow visitors to explore most of Helambu’s religious and tourist sites while experiencing its full natural beauty. Situated between 2,500 and 5,000 metres above sea level, the route is expected to take around one week to complete on foot.
Authorities believe the trail will establish Helambu as a major Himalayan trekking destination in Nepal, offering a new experience every day of the journey.
