KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party has announced that electronic voting will be used during its upcoming general convention.
According to election commission chief Bhuwan KC, voters will be able to cast their ballots by touching the candidates’ names and photographs displayed on electronic devices.
The party estimates that the first round of voting will take around six hours. In this phase, delegates will vote for one party chairperson and 99 central committee members.
KC said that after the members are elected, a second round of voting will be held to elect the vice chairperson, general secretary, and deputy general secretary positions from among those elected members.
The nomination process is scheduled to begin at 2:00 PM on June 22, and the first phase of voting is planned to take place the same evening. If completed on schedule, the second phase of voting for party office bearers will be held on June 23.
The party expects participation from around 3,000 representatives.
For delegates living abroad who cannot attend physically, RSP is also arranging remote voting through its own mobile application. Among around 170 overseas representatives, those unable to travel will be able to vote through the app.
The party’s central election commission consists of one chief and ten members. Although election commission officials are not allowed to contest in the election, they are permitted to vote. KC said the commission aims to conduct the election in a neutral and impartial manner without the officials casting votes themselves.
