Israel Embassy marks 78th Independence Day in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: The Embassy of Israel in Nepal celebrated the 78th Independence Day of the State of Israel with a special program in Kathmandu attended by senior government officials, political leaders, diplomats, media representatives, and friends of Israel.

The event was attended by Ramsahay Prasad Yadav as the chief guest. Welcoming guests at the program, Ambassador Shmulik Arie Bass said the occasion symbolized not only Israel’s national journey but also the friendship and partnership between Nepal and Israel. He highlighted Israel’s transformation from a resource-limited country into a global center for innovation and technology.

The ambassador noted that Israel’s experience in areas such as water management, agriculture, entrepreneurship, and digital innovation could contribute meaningfully to Nepal’s priorities of economic growth, employment generation, agricultural modernization, and youth opportunities. He said both countries share a common belief that progress is driven by education, resilience, and innovation.

The event featured a cultural program, including a musical performance by renowned Israeli musician Alex Pollack. A ceremonial toast was also raised to commemorate 78 years of Israel’s independence and celebrate the country’s achievements and resilience.

Guests were shown an AI-generated video highlighting Israeli contributions to global innovation in fields such as technology, agriculture, healthcare, water management, research, and education.

The presentation featured innovations including Viber, the USB flash drive, drip irrigation technology, Waze, ICQ, Fiverr, desalination systems, wearable robotics, PillCam technology, Check Point Software Technologies, multiple sclerosis research, and Wiz, a cloud security company recently sold for US$ 32 billion.

Another video presentation highlighted the experiences of three Nepali individuals involved in MASHAV training programs, the caregiving sector, and the Learn and Earn initiative, showcasing how their professional and personal lives were positively influenced through opportunities in Israel.

Organizers said the presentation reflected Israel’s continued support for Nepal’s human resource development and capacity building.
