KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress, the main opposition party, is preparing to implement new guidelines aimed at making its public programs more disciplined and organized.
The party’s Central Working Committee is planning to enforce the new procedure starting from May 15 after incorporating suggestions from district and provincial committees.
According to the proposed guidelines, all party events organized at different levels must begin and conclude on schedule. Programs will start as scheduled even if the chief guest fails to arrive on time.
The procedure also requires that speaking time for leaders be fixed in advance, and speakers must adhere strictly to the allotted time.
Under the proposal, only two people, the chairperson and one speaker, will be allowed to sit on the stage during the program.
The guidelines further state that no seat-taking ceremony will be allowed after 15 minutes of the program’s start, and crowding on the stage will not be permitted. Event venues must also be made accessible for persons with disabilities.
Speakers will be required to address the audience collectively rather than individually acknowledging attendees for a prolonged time and must remain focused on the topic while speaking.
The procedure also prohibits the use of hateful, violent, or discriminatory language related to caste, region, religion, gender, or social identity.
In addition, the party has proposed banning the use of garlands, khadas, badges, and similar ceremonial items in programs to keep events simple and formal.
