Westerly winds, low-pressure system trigger unstable weather

KATHMANDU: Nepal is currently experiencing mixed weather conditions due to the combined influence of westerly winds, local systems, and a low-pressure system near eastern parts of the country.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, these systems have led to cloudy skies, rainfall, and snowfall in several regions.

At present, hilly and mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces are witnessing generally cloudy conditions. Partial cloud cover has also been observed in the hilly and Tarai regions of Sudurpaschim, as well as the Tarai belt of Koshi Province.

Light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunder and lightning, along with snowfall in higher elevations, is occurring in some hilly and mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces. Weather conditions in the rest of the country remain mostly clear.

The forecast for Monday indicates continued cloud cover over Koshi Province and other hilly and mountainous regions, with partial cloudiness likely in the Tarai. There is a chance of light rain and snowfall with thunder and lightning in parts of Koshi and Gandaki, and isolated rainfall in hilly areas of Bagmati and Lumbini provinces.

Meanwhile, rising temperatures are expected to impact daily life in the Tarai and lowland regions. Hot conditions are likely across the Tarai districts, valleys, and inner plains of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Madhesh, and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Meteorologists have warned of increasing heat and possible hot winds in these areas and have advised residents to take necessary precautions to avoid heat-related risks.
