41 parties submit election manifestos to EC

KATHMANDU: All 41 political parties participating in the upcoming House of Representatives (HoR) elections have submitted their election manifestos to the Election Commission (EC) of Nepal.

The Election Commission said that all contesting parties have furnished their manifestos. Although the Commission had requested parties to submit their manifestos in advance, submissions continued beyond the deadline, according to EC.

Regarding individual candidates, she stated that there is a provision to submit details at the district-level election offices, and therefore, complete data is yet to be compiled.

The Commission further stated that ballot papers for all 165 constituencies under the first-past-the-post (direct) system have been printed and packed. Ballot papers for the proportional representation system have already been dispatched to Sudurpaschim, Karnali, and Koshi provinces.

It said that Commission volunteers are conducting voter education programs using sample ballot papers prepared for the election.

According to the Commission, candidates are required to open dedicated bank accounts for election expenses. So far, seven political parties and 8,867 candidates have reported opening such accounts.

The Commission said it expects a significant increase in the number of candidates opening bank accounts on Sunday and Monday next week, as several public holidays this week slowed the process.

According to EC, overall election preparations are progressing in line with the schedule set by the Election Commission.
