KATHMANDU: With just 13 days remaining until the House of Representatives (HoR) election, the Election Commission (EC) has launched a TikTok-based voter education campaign, offering cash prizes of up to Rs 50,000.
TikTok, widely used for entertainment, is now being mobilized for a national cause. The Commission is encouraging citizens, especially youth, to create short, engaging videos that promote voter awareness and responsible participation in what it describes as a “national democratic exercise.”
As part of the campaign, participants are invited to produce one-minute TikTok videos focusing on topics such as voter education and the election code of conduct. The initiative aims to make the upcoming House of Representatives Member Election 2082 more informed, dignified, and participatory.
Interested participants must post their videos on social media and also submit them to the Commission’s official email by March 1.
The Commission will award cash prizes to the top three videos based on viewership. The video with the highest number of views will receive Rs 50,000, the second prize winner will get Rs 30,000, and the third will receive Rs 20,000. All winners will also be awarded certificates.
Videos must be interactive, message-oriented, and relevant to the House of Representatives election. Special priority will be given to entries featuring original audio and acting.
Suggested themes include general information about the election, its importance, proper ballot-stamping procedures, adherence to the election code of conduct, and the rights and responsibilities of voters. Participants may also create videos addressing specific topics such as how voters should evaluate candidates and why informed voting matters.
Each individual may submit one video per topic, and group submissions are also allowed. The Commission will retain rights to the submitted videos and may share them on its official social media platforms.
According to the notice, videos that fail to meet the specified criteria or are submitted after the deadline will not be considered. The best entries will be selected jointly by independent experts and the Commission.
