KATHMANDU: The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has decided to provide Rs 100 thousand as an immediate support to each family of the victim journalists- affected, injured and killed ones in the Bhotekoshi floods on August 26.
The FNJ will be providing the monetary support to the families of Tekraj Thami, former central member of FNJ and Nayapatrika daily reporter; Shekhar Dhungana, former advisor to FNJ Bhaktapur chapter; and Raj Kumar Nepali, FNJ member at Nuwakot chapter.
Final rites of journalist Thami, who had gone missing since the disaster, were performed at Pashupati Aryaghat with an effigy made of straw today.
Member of FNJ Rasuwa chapter Nirajan Poudel, who lost his family members and home in the disaster, will also receive the monetary support.
Issuing a press statement today, FNJ general secretary Ram Prasad Dahal shared information that the umbrella body of journalists across the country was collecting information about the disaster affected journalists, their family members and property from various chapters. The monetary support would be handed over based on the assistance standard that pays heed to immediate need.
