KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane has called a meeting of the party’s parliamentary party for Wednesday.
The meeting is scheduled to take place at 11 am at the party’s office in Singha Durbar. RSP ministers have also been asked to attend. Lamichhane called the meeting amid concerns over the declining performance and attendance of the party’s lawmakers in Parliament.
He is expected to give instructions regarding the performance and attendance of lawmakers in Parliament, according to party lawmakers. The responsibility for convening parliamentary party meetings formally lies with RSP parliamentary party leader Balendra Shah. However, Shah is currently serving as Prime Minister and has attended only one parliamentary party meeting so far.
RSP leaders say Shah is unlikely to attend Wednesday’s meeting as well. Meanwhile, Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal has summoned Prime Minister Shah to Parliament on August 26 to respond to questions raised by lawmakers.
Against this backdrop, Lamichhane has been increasing his involvement in the party’s parliamentary affairs.
