KATHMANDU: A dissident faction of the Nepali Congress has decided to organize a national gathering in Kathmandu within the month of Shrawan (mid-August), signaling growing internal divisions within the party.
At a press conference held in Chundevi on Friday, leaders of the faction said the gathering aims to chart the party’s future policy direction through a broader national debate and discussion.
“We have concluded that a national gathering should be held in Kathmandu within Shrawan to determine a new policy direction through national-level discussions while strengthening unity within the party and safeguarding the freedom and rights of the Nepali people,” said Min Bishwakarma, coordinator of the publicity committee representing the group advocating for a regular general convention.
The faction said the date, venue and other details of the gathering will be announced during the BP Memorial Day program scheduled for Shrawan 6.
Bishwakarma also accused the party’s establishment faction of failing to make meaningful efforts to preserve party unity.
“The faction advocating for a regular general convention has continuously sought unity, shown maximum flexibility and exercised patience through dialogue. However, even seven months after the dispute began and four months after the court verdict, the leadership that emerged through the special general convention has not demonstrated any meaningful initiative to resolve the issue,” he said.
He added that after completing provincial-level gatherings, the dissident faction had decided it was necessary to convene a national gathering.
