KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli has instructed the party’s federal lawmakers to present the voices of the people in Parliament with strong arguments backed by facts, evidence and research.
Addressing a parliamentary training program organized by the party’s Central Parliamentary Department at the UML headquarters in Chyasal on Sunday, the former prime minister said effective parliamentary participation based on facts, in-depth study of public issues and a focus on national interest would strengthen Nepal’s democratic practice.
“A strong opposition is not merely a force that criticizes the government,” Oli said. “The UML has organized this training to combine political experience with the knowledge, research and intellectual capacity of experts. You must work to establish a new standard of a capable, responsible and visionary opposition that amplifies the people’s voice in policymaking through facts and evidence while making the government more accountable.”
The training program was also addressed by party Vice Chair and Parliamentary Party Leader Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal’, Vice Chair Prithvi Subba Gurung, General Secretary Shankar Pokharel and Deputy Parliamentary Party Leader Padma Kumari Aryal, among other leaders.
