Flood risk rises in 35 districts, including Kathmandu Valley



KATHMANDU: The Flood Forecasting Division has urged residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert, warning of the possibility of flooding in various parts of the country today (Sunday).

According to the Division, major flooding is likely in 35 districts, including Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur, with rising water levels expected in rivers across these areas.

In a notice issued today, the Division stated that the flow of small rivers in Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Ilam, Panchthar, Tehrathum, Dolakha, Sindhupalchowk, Kavrepalanchowk, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Dhading, Makawanpur and Chitwan districts is expected to increase significantly.

Similarly, river flows in Kaski, Tanahun, Syangja, Parbat, Baglung, Gulmi, Palpa, Arghakhanchi, Pyuthan, Nawalparasi East, Nawalparasi West, Rupandehi, Kapilvastu, Dang, Banke, Bardiya, Doti, Dadeldhura, Kailali and Kanchanpur districts are also likely to rise.

The Division warned of a moderate risk of flash floods in these districts and urged people living near riverbanks and other vulnerable areas to take necessary precautions.
