RSP to hold Central Committee meeting in Chitwan ahead of general convention

KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is set to hold its Central Committee meeting on Saturday, with preparations underway to begin the session in Chitwan, party leaders said.

According to leaders, the meeting will be formally inaugurated in Chitwan on Saturday morning. The party is preparing to pass a new statute ahead of its general convention.

Party officials said the meeting is being arranged to ensure participation from all leaders, with both physical and virtual attendance expected. Except for a few exceptions, most central members are expected to join the session.

RSP Secretariat member Pradeep Chandra Parajuli said the meeting will be held physically, while some leaders may connect virtually depending on availability.

“Since this is the final central committee meeting before the convention, we are planning to hold it physically in Chitwan. Some colleagues may also join virtually,” he said, adding that the exact time of the meeting is yet to be finalized.

The meeting is expected to endorse the party’s statute, which has been amended for the fourth time.

Under the proposed structure, the party will have 158 central committee members, including 151 elected members and seven provincial chairpersons serving as ex-officio members.

Similarly, the secretariat is expected to consist of 28 to 30 members, while discussions are ongoing to finalize 18 to 19 office-bearer positions.

Leaders said the upcoming general convention, scheduled after four years, will be the party’s first major convention.

According to party sources, Prime Minister and senior leader Balen Shah is expected to be directly nominated as a senior leader without contesting central committee elections.

Party leaders also claim that party chair Rabi Lamichhane is likely to be elected unopposed as chairperson at the convention.
