KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle has said the budget for the upcoming fiscal year will be fully aligned with the government’s policy and programme.
Responding to lawmakers during discussions in the House of Representatives on the principles and priorities of the Appropriation Bill, Minister Waglé said there is complete coordination between the government’s policy and programme and the principles and priorities of the budget.
He also urged opposition lawmakers not to defend individuals “engaging in wrongdoing under the guise of entrepreneurship.”
The finance minister said the government is committed to improving the economic condition of workers, farmers, landless people, squatters, and communities deprived of opportunities. Stating that “an entire industry has been built around sustaining poverty,” he said such practices would not be allowed to continue.
Minister Wagle argued that those searching for “old rhetoric” had failed to see anything new in the government’s programme. Referring to the post-uprising political changes, he said the public had endorsed the government’s 100-point commitment document, which the administration would prioritise.
He also suggested critics wait until the next election if they want to turn the government’s programme into their own political document.
