Court remands Durga Prasai to custody for 3 days

KATHMANDU: Police have obtained a three-day remand against medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai, who was arrested from Birgunj in Parsa district on Monday night.

Prasai was taken into custody from Hotel Siddhartha Diyalo in Birgunj and kept at the District Police Office, Parsa.

On Tuesday, police presented him before the Parsa District Court, which granted a three-day extension for investigation.

According to police, Prasai was arrested based on complaints accusing him of making provocative statements through social media, engaging in activities that could disturb social harmony, and inciting actions against the state.

Police officials said the arrest was carried out under “orders from above.”

Prasai, coordinator of the “Nation, Nationality, Religion, Culture and Citizen Protection Mega Campaign Nepal,” had arrived in Birgunj to attend a program scheduled for Wednesday.

Prasai has previously remained under scrutiny during the governments led by KP Sharma Oli and former Chief Justice Sushila Karki. Reports indicate that the current administration led by Prime Minister Balendra Shah has also started tightening control over his activities.
