KATHMANDU: Temperatures have increased across Nepal, with several regions experiencing warmer-than-usual conditions. The Kathmandu Valley is also feeling the effect of the rising heat.
According to the Weather Forecasting Division Nepal, the minimum temperature in the Kathmandu Valley today has reached 18.5 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature is expected to range between 28 and 30 degrees Celsius.
Meteorologists say the rising temperatures are linked to weakening cloud cover and increasing solar radiation during the pre-monsoon period, which often leads to warmer days and relatively humid conditions in urban areas like Kathmandu.
Meanwhile, the southern plains are experiencing even more intense heat. Bhairahawa recorded the country’s highest minimum temperature at 25.4 degrees Celsius today. The maximum temperature in the region is expected to climb significantly, reaching between 36 and 38 degrees Celsius.
Experts say such temperature patterns are common in April, especially in the Terai region, where heatwaves often begin before the onset of the monsoon. Health officials advise people to stay hydrated, avoid direct sun exposure during peak afternoon hours, and take precautions against heat-related illnesses.
