NUWAKOT: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Bikram Timilsina has stressed the need for citizens to verify whether information circulating on social media is official or merely rumours.
Speaking at a program in Chhare Bazaar of Likhu Rural Municipality-6, Nuwakot, the Minister said recent claims that the government was planning to distribute new mobile phones to all ministers were completely false and misleading.
He said such fabricated content is being spread to create unnecessary distrust against the government and may be driven by malicious intent.
Minister Timilsina urged citizens to always check the authenticity and source of information before sharing it. “It is the responsibility of every aware citizen to verify facts before believing or spreading unconfirmed information,” he said.
He added that the government is committed to using public resources responsibly and encouraged citizens to remain vigilant against any misuse of state funds. However, he also emphasized that questions should be raised based on facts, as public scrutiny helps improve government accountability.
The Minister said the government’s focus is on improving living standards and advancing national development under a “zero tolerance” policy against irregularities and misuse of authority. He said investigations and necessary action would be taken immediately whenever concerns arise.
He further noted that the government is working to ensure good governance, efficient service delivery, and infrastructure development, adding that past shortcomings must now be addressed through result-oriented work.
“Our goal is to deliver results, not just promises,” he said, adding that development is a gradual process requiring long-term commitment.
Timilsina also said the government prioritizes reaching local communities and shaping policies based on citizens’ feedback, and expressed commitment to addressing development needs of the district in the coming days.
He called for cooperation and constructive suggestions from citizens, saying the government aims to complete long-pending development projects within the next five years.
