Nepal–Portugal bilateral consultation mechanism’s first meeting to be held in Lisbon on Friday



KATHMANDU: The first meeting of the Nepal–Portugal Bilateral Consultation Mechanism is set to take place in Lisbon on Friday.

The meeting will review the overall state of Nepal–Portugal relations, along with discussions on issues of mutual interest and cooperation in regional and multilateral forums.

Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai has arrived in Lisbon leading the Nepali delegation for the meeting, where he will co-chair the session.

According to the Embassy of Nepal in Lisbon, the Foreign Secretary is also scheduled to hold meetings with senior officials of Portugal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and inaugurate the newly established Nepali Embassy.

During his stay, the Foreign Secretary will also interact with representatives of the Nepali community in Portugal. More than 40,000 Nepalis are currently residing in the European country.

The Nepali delegation includes senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador to Portugal Prakash Mani Paudel, and other embassy officials.

The delegation is scheduled to return home on Sunday. The Nepal–Portugal Consultation Mechanism was established in 2018.
