Rabi and Balen to address mass assembly in Janakpur today

JANAKPURDHAM:  The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is set to organize a mass assembly “Pariwartan Udghosh Sabha” in Janakpurdham, Dhanusha today. The party said preparations for the event are in their final stage.

The announcement of the assembly has heightened political activity in Madhesh. Senior RSP leader Balendra Shah (Balen) arrived in Janakpurdham on Sunday evening to address the program. He reached Janakpur shortly after resigning from the post of Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City.

According to party leaders, RSP Chair Rabi Lamichhane and senior leader Shah will both address the assembly. The event is being viewed as the party’s first major gathering in preparation for the upcoming elections.

The party believes the assembly, organized against the backdrop of recent political developments, Shah’s resignation, Martyrs’ Day of the Madhesh movement, and Madhesh-centric issues, will help expand the RSP’s political base in the region.

After stepping down as mayor on Sunday, Shah visited the party’s central office at Banasthali in Kathmandu, assumed responsibilities as a senior leader, and then traveled directly to Janakpurdham the same evening.

A large number of supporters gathered at Janakpurdham Airport to welcome him, chanting slogans in his support. Briefly addressing the media at the airport, Shah said he was delighted to be in Janakpurdham and to meet party supporters.
