KATHMANDU: Youth activist Miraj Dhungana has said that Nepal’s political reforms should be guided by a clear understanding of the country’s own social, political and geographical realities, rather than by advice from foreign embassies or external power centers.
Sharing his views on social media, Dhungana described himself as a “local, a product of this soil” and said he would not approach foreign embassies for advice on Nepal’s political reforms, citing his sense of self-respect.
“My self-respect does not allow me to go to embassies of other countries for political reforms,” he wrote.
Dhungana said solutions to Nepal’s political and social challenges should be developed by closely examining Nepali society and the realities within the country. He maintained a firm position that Nepal’s problems should be addressed from within the country.
“What this country needs comes from understanding the soil of this country in detail. I have a rock-solid stance on this issue,” Dhungana said.
He also urged patriotic youth and citizens to form their views on political and social issues by keeping Nepal’s needs and national interests at the center.
Dhungana’s remarks come amid continuing public debate over external influence and foreign involvement in Nepal’s politics and state governance. He argued that Nepal’s political future should be shaped by the experiences, needs and national interests of Nepali society.
